16+ Fascinating TV Shows Based On Supernatural World

No matter how much we know that it’s all just a fantasy, yet we are fascinated, charmed and sometimes spooked by the supernatural world displayed on popular TV series. Whether its magic, superhuman strength or immortality, we wish to become one of the supernatural characters or hunts them down as a hunter, if given a chance.

Thanks to pop culture around the supernatural theme, the genre is quite popular among all age groups across the globe. Maybe it takes us to a whole new world of fantasy, where the only concern is how to overcome the evil and survive. Although I don’t believe in any of those supernatural beings or cultures, I often wondered where the ideas about such supernatural theme come from!

Despite not having any beliefs in such a fantasy supernatural world, I am a huge fan of this pop culture. Hence, today I will share a list of some awesome TV series, which is highly based on a supernatural world, theme, things or characters.

Supernatural Season 1 TV Series

The first on my list the adventures of the Winchester brothers, where they hunt down vampires, witches, werewolves, shapeshifters, demons and sometimes even rogue angels. Supernatural, as the name suggests, has each and every supernatural creature ever created and as hunters, Sam and Dean Winchester must kill them for good. The show already has a successful run for 11 seasons now and is among the top Supernatural themed shows ever.

The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries TV Series

Well, the vampires are not always evil and that’s what The Vampire Diaries is all about. This TV series based around the city of Mystic Falls follows the story of Elena, Damon and Stefan. Damon and Stefan are the vampire brothers, who fall for the same girl Elena, a teenage girl of Mystic Falls. The series talks about dark magic, witches, werewolves, hunters, and, of course, the main attraction is garnered by the vampires on the show.

The Originals

The Originals TV Series

A spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, The Originals follows the life of Mikaelson siblings, Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah. The series is basically about the Mikaelson siblings quest to regain control over the city of Orleans, they had been forced to flee from their vengeful father. However, the origin of the series is cut down from The Vampire Diaries, The Originals focuses around a completely independent plot with different storylines.

Fringe is an American Supernatural Science Fiction TV Series. TV Show is about an FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham a Mad Scientist Walter Bishop and his Son peter Bishop. They Investigate aspects of Fringe Science. Fringe is highly inspired by X-Files, The Twilight Zone and some other supernatural TV Shows.

Grimm

Grimm TV Series Supernatural TV Show

Grimm is a police procedural fantasy drama series, where the main protagonist discovers that he belongs to a long lineage of guardians known as Grimm’s and he must maintain the balance between humanity and the mythological characters called Wesen. All the mythological creatures featured on the TV series are inspired by Grimms’ Fairy Tales. Grimm has a successful run for 5 years since it premiered in 2011.

True Blood

True Blood TV Series

HBO’s True Blood is based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries series of novels by Charlaine Harris, True Blood is an American television drama featuring the life of Sookie Stack house, a telepathic waitress and her encounters with the other co-existing vampires. Besides vampires, there are also other supernatural creatures such as werewolves, shapeshifters, faeries, witches and a maenad feature in the series.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is an American TV series following the life of Buffy, who happens to be the latest in the lineage of a young woman known as Vampire Slayers. As per the story, the Vampire Slayers are chosen by fate to fight supernatural creatures such as vampires, demons, and other evil forces. The series is even today considered a classic among the supernatural pop culture and had a successful run of 7 seasons since its premiere in 1997.

A spin-off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel is a yet another Supernatural drama TV Series following the life of Angel, one of the love interests of Buffy, who also happens to be a vampire. Unlike other vampires, Angel has a human soul which was restored to him as an act of punishment by the Gypsies when he killed one of their own. In the series, as an act of penance, Angel becomes a private detective in Los Angeles, California to help the helpless. To do this, he must fight the evil demons and other humans allied to them.

Lost is one of the highly praised and acclaimed yet a very complicated TV series of all time. The show features a lot of different elements of both science fiction and supernatural themes. Basically, the show begins after a commercial passenger plane crashes on a mysterious island somewhere in South Pacific Ocean and from thereon, the mystical adventure of Lost begins. The reason I say it is a very complicated series is because Lost has various subplots featured in flashback or flash forward. Due to its cult following and huge popularity, there are many different miniseries and other media released to explain the fiction universe and mythology of Lost.

Teen Wolf

Being a widely popular show on social media, Teen Wolf has taken the audience; especially the younger audience by storm, with its charm and the supernatural theme around a werewolf, the show is based upon. Teen Wolf follows the story of a teenage boy named Scott McCall, who is bitten by a werewolf and now must accept its consequences as well as cope up with his new life and transformation to a werewolf. Premiered back in 2011, the series is still running with a successful stint of 5 seasons.

Sleepy Hollow is an American supernatural-themed television series based on the folk tale “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving. The plot of Sleepy Hollow follows the same storyline as the folk tale with the only difference that the new story is set after 230 years, where Ichabod Crane, who killed the Headless Horseman and losing his own life in the process in 1781, rises from his grave after Headless Horseman is summoned back to his life by an unknown party.

Lost Girl

The trio of sisters is known as The Charmed Ones and each one of them possess unique magical powers that they use to protect the innocent lives around them from demons and other warlocks. Despite possessing magical powers, they find it hard coping up with the ordinary life of modern-day San Francisco as well as hiding their supernatural identity from the people around them. The series follows the life of Elena Michael s, a female werewolf, who leads a normal life with her human boyfriend Phillip in Toronto as well as obliges to her duties towards her family in Upstate New York as a werewolf. Like every other supernatural-themed series, Bitten also features several other supernatural beings such as witches.
