The movie is adapted from Romeo and Juliet and is set in Gujarat. Most of the movie is shot in Gujarat itself, in Udaipur and Udaipur Palace. Ranveer and Deepika have done a lot of hard work in the movie, Whereas Ranveer had to shoot in freezing cold water for about 45 minutes, Deepika in spite of getting injured had to shoot for a song as the shooting could not be delayed because of an expensive set and lack of time.
Priyanka Chopra will be seen in a Song in the movie, which was earlier bagged by Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie earlier named Ramleela had been entangled in a legal controversy soon after it’s trailer was released. A controversy of hurting religious sentiments started boiling in Jaipur. Advocate Pawan Sharma, has also filed a complaint against the Movie.
To avoid any further religious controversies, Sanjay Leela Bhansali made a slight change in the name of the movie. Ramleela is now Ram-Leela.
